Projecting of wiring harnesses for vehicle cabling
|
| |
KABI 4.6 - the integrated process chain KABI is a CAD/CAE product offering comprehensive support for the design of wiring harnesses for vehicle wiring. Design is an integrated solution using KABI, from creating the electric circuits through the schematic wiring harness diagram to the production documentation (bill of materials, wire lists, cutting lists, formboard diagram, etc.).
With the aid of the interfaces to 3D-engineering CAD systems, PPS systems and cable production and testing machines, processes can be modeled completely for both the car manufacturer/engineering department and the supplier/cable assembler. However, there is also the option of utilizing only part of the KABI functionalities – e.g. purely production-oriented design without a circuit diagram. |

The functions in detail Circuit diagram
The basis for the production of a wiring harness is the electrical circuit. Its functioning is generally represented in electrical engineering as a circuit diagram. Necessary switching elements are represented as symbols and can also be selected via a graphics tablet and fixed in the diagram. Connection texts and technical data are automatically stored by means of allocation to a defined component. The symbols are then connected by lines in accordance with the circuit. Wire numbers and types are also allocated at this stage. The wires are managed online via the Wire Manager. |

Overview diagram
Because the electrical circuit is not always available for manufacturing wiring harnesses, design may also begin with a very simple overview diagram. The circuit diagram is not required in this case. The exact wiring arrangement is not important, only the devices and connectors utilized are defined.
Excel/CSV import
If the electrical circuit is unknown (e.g.: data from other systems), you may also begin with a CSV import of a wiring harness. This from-to information forms the basis for creation of the KABI wiring harness diagram
Topological diagram
The topological wiring harness diagram (topological diagram) is used for clearly representing the wiring in a complete vehicle. It was specially developed for an early planning stage of vehicle wiring, i.e. lengths and structures can be noted and tubes/distributors can be dimensioned at a very early developmental stage. In this way a very early wiring harness cost assessment is possible. |

The functions in detail Wiring harness diagram
The information from the circuit diagram is utilized when creating the wiring harness diagram, making the conception of the wiring harness diagram very simple. All information for components or the wiring arrangement are visible and can be simply accessed via the wiring harness diagram. This diagram forms the basis for all necessary production documents. These include the bill of materials, summarized bill of materials, cutting list and formboard diagram. The overview diagram can also be used as the basis for automatic generation of the cabling information. |

Formboard diagram
The formboard diagram is generated completely automatically from the wiring harness data, may become several meters in dimension, and is later fixed to a harness board. Because the required length precision can never be achieved when working with such sheet sizes in the graphics window, drawing with input masks is supported. The necessary data originate once again from the wiring harness diagram. This ensures that no component is forgotten and that the cable lengths are correct. The assembly locations can be adjusted or even subsequently adapted. The employees in the production line can see the exact wiring arrangement in its actual length and assembly location. All components are displayed in their original sizes in order to guarantee easy optical assignment. Legends (tables) can be entered for each connector; they contain the pin assignments, contact types, wiring properties (color, cross-section, number, length) and the associated component. Wiring tables and component lists complete the formboard diagram.
Automatic proposal by KABI - manual optimization can now take place
Colored representation of bundling routes and connector pin assignments simplifies layout work. |

Report generator
Product development without the corresponding documentation is impossible to imagine. KABI therefore provides a powerful "Reporting Tool" for creating a wide variety of lists of different types. Via two basic list types, the graphics list and the ASCII list, a freely definable list layout covers a broad palette of application fields. Standard output like ASCII, WORD, HTML, PDF, CSV, EXCEL...
3D integration with the KABI 3D Design Manager
The step to simulation engineering is made using the newly developed "KABI 3D Design Manager". Integration of the electrical design and the mechanical construction follows in CATIA V5. |

Interfaces CATIA V4 / Pro/E / Solidworks
The optionally available module sends the KABI bundle information to the 3D system – this allows quick and simple installation routing of bundle segments instead of individual wire information.
The bundle lengths required for identification of the individual wire lengths are sent back from the 3D systems.
Testing programs
The optionally available interface generates testing programs, for example for TSK Tester, Eybächer System (electronic installation system with test function) etc., in order to simplify the final testing of the wiring harness.
ODBC - Import of technical data
A standard ACCESS database is available for entering the technical data of the wiring harness components used. Import to KABI is very easy using for example the ODBC interface.
Electrical simulation - ESIM
The optionally available ESIM (electrical simulation) module is a software package for the electrical simulation of KABI circuit diagrams. ESIM can be utilized for fuse dimensioning, calculates voltage drops in the wiring and is the ideal tool for optimizing your circuit.
KABI Viewer
Original internal company KABI design data can be accessed using the KABI Viewer. It provides intelligent search functions and a "redlining" function in order to note amendment or correction remarks without altering the original design stock.
The KABI user is notified about these entries and can amend the original data.
The Viewer has proven extremely useful in departments dealing with testing only, or in production. |

AUCOTECview
An ideal tool for final documentation - KABI diagrams are converted to PDF files and, with the help of an ACCESS database, are automatically supplemented for search purposes.
An ideal tool for customer service, with the assistance of Acrobat Reader it can search a CD for faulty diagrams or components. |
